Universal has squished another 8 Abbott & Costello movies out on a 2 disc set that will obviously please the ardent fans, but these films (with one exception) are really AWFUL.

The only one worth any note here is A&C MEET FRANKENSTEIN which actually has a good script, and a clever way of intergrating Universal’s horror franchise with their then-hugely popular comedy team. It’s the only A&C film I can sit through (except for their earliest).

    SKIP THIS DUD!

  2. AS MUCH AS I ENJOY THESE TWO TWO GUYS, THERE MOVIES LIKE MANY I COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER.

HOWEVER, VOLUME 2 HAS A GREAT LINE UP OF MOVIES, BUT UNIVERSAL

NEVER TOOK THE TIME TO MAKE SURE THE DVD’S HAD ANY QUALITY STANDARDS BEFORE THERE RELEASE.

BY THIS I MEAN THAT OUT OF THE EIGHT MOVIES ON THIS COLLECTION, ONLY TWO(2) ARE VIEWABLE OR PLAYABLE ON MY DVD PLAYER OR ON MY PC DVD PLAYER.

BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS COLLECTION, I READ THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT OTHER PEOPLE WERE HAVING TROUBLE PLAYING THE DISC’S, BUT I TOOK A CHANCE ANYWAY FIGURING I WOULD BE LUCKY AND GET A COPY THAT WOULD PLAY-I WAS WRONG!!

COLLECTION ONE(1) THAT I PURCHASED PLAYS FINE, BUT COLLECTION 2

IS SIMPLY PLAQUED WITH PROBLEMS, PICTURE FREEZING, JUMPING TO THE ENDING CREDITS WITHOUT PLAYING THE SELECTED MOVIE, ETC

ONLY TWO OF THE EIGHT MOVIES WERE ABLE TO PLAY.

SO, A FRIENDLY WORD TO ALL ABBOTT/COSTELLO LOVERS, DON’T BUY THIS COLLECTION, VOLUME 3, YOU WILL BE THROWING YOUR MONEY AWAY!

LETS HOPE VOLUME 4 FROM “UNIVERSAL” GETS IT RIGHT

These A&C sets are real bargains and they are filled with A&C’s best works. So, I guess most A&C fans are nutty people because all I hear is ‘defects’ and ‘freezing’. What is wrong with all of you A&C fans? I was so scared on buying these sets because of all these rumors. Well, let me give a little advice. These rumors are not true. I bought all three volumes of these A&C sets and not one of them had any defects or problems. I have four DVD players and they are about 4 years old and these DVDs play fine on all of these players. So, either you people have broken DVD players or you like spreading rumors. Well, get a life and stop driving customers away.

The meatballs are frying, Abbott & Costello are on the tube, East Side Kids are coming on next, Sauce goes on and I eat a fryed Meatball, When every show is finished , we all sit down for the Macaroni. It wouldn’t be a Sunday if it weren’t for the A&C Movies & Macaroni w/Meatballs.

Except for A&C Meet Frankenstein, this group is limp by comparison to their earlier work from the 1940s. The films are still okay to watch. If you hadn’t seen A&C Go to Mars, the following is a SPOILER, so stop reading here. I hadn’t seen Mars since I was 12 and always felt the end was cruel when Costello kisses the innocent girl (Jackie Loughery) and the queen’s curse ages her to 100. In my recent viewing I realized at the end that the Queen lifts the effects of the curse which, I assume, means the girl returned to her youthful beauty. Great to see Bruce Cabot in Lost in Alaska. I guess my problem with this group is that I can see the potential of each film if Universal really got behind the projects. Apparently they just relied on Bud and Lou’s reputation to sell these movies which is unfortunate.
