Star Trek is one of the biggest franchises ever. I first came across it with The Next Generation series. So, when the blu ray of the original came out, I jumped on it. The blu ray presentation–in terms of quality of image and sound–is unparalleled for any series of its time. I was blown away that a series this old could look and sound this good. Now the actual material was a little more uneven than I expected. Some of it is brilliant (Menagerie, Balance of Terror, Court Martial), some of its good, but there is some that is bad, really bad (The Man Trap, Miri, Shore Leave). I watched in utter disbelief as Sulu pranced around in one episode swinging a sword! Yes, there are number of these horrible moments. Of course, there are moments of brilliance and episodes where you see the future potential of the series. Menagerie Parts 1 & 2 is one of those. Jeffrey Hunter is brilliant and the story is one of the best of all Star Trek. BTW, Kirk and Spock are really, really good episode after episode. There are a number of good guest performances and even some surprising ones (like Joan Collins). Overall, it’s ok, but not the best.

Finally they’ve released the 3rd season of yet another STANDARD DVD release.
As hardcore Star Trek fans buy up this release, you can bet Paramount have begun plans for the release of the Blu-ray version.
Knowing Paramount, there may be TWO Blu-ray releases:
1. Blu-ray of the ENHANCED Star Trek…once everyone replaces the current release
2. A Blu-ray version of the remastered ORIGINAL version (digitally cleaned up) for the Star Trek purists.
Of course, if Paramount was a “normal” company, they would release both on the same release — as a kind of a “bonus”…but we’re talkin’ about Paramount here. You know it won’t be reasonably priced so be prepared to be ripped off.
However, on the bright side they may actually ADD extras such as cast commentaries…they have to…. if they hold off any longer, most of the original cast will be dead.

I paid for the first version of this. Then they put the first season on HD DVD, now, instead of making blu-rays they put out the remastered complete version again for us to buy. Hoe many times do we need to buy this ??
Also,
I wrote this before for this item and although it was within the posting guidelines, Amazon decided not to post the rating. I understand they make money selling these but I also come here because I trust the reviews. One cannot help but wonder: Is Amazon filtering the ratings they post ? Dissapointing ……

When reading the security label across the top of the Slim Line box. I noticed it
read “The (Best) of the original series (Vol).3″ The Best of, Vol. 3. I havent
purchased the set yet so I’m not sure. Is the the COMPLETE season 3. Don’t Like the
slim line box that doesnt match the first two sets at all. I’ll remember Paramount
how you cheapened things up at the end of this series when you market “THe Next Generation”
in Blu Ray and wait to buy the compete set or at least matching ones when you offer the last season.

Many Are Saying to wait for Blue-Ray. But last Time I checked, It was still very expensive. I am glad they put it on Standard DVD. It is very enjoyable and affordable.
