Gods, this second season was a bore. And the production values took a nosedive as well. I hadn't thought JC was such an integral character in the first season, but without him, the new season completely lost direction. Thumbs down.

Having seen seasons one and two of this HBO series, and being a person who really enjoys this type of thing, I have to say that Rome is a bust. The setting, the costumes, and the acting are all very good, particularly the setting, but the plot lines and the writing is atrocious. This is pure soap opera with very little else. The writing is just flat out bad. Why in the world would we have actors spewing such lines as "oh, bollocks!"? Why bother with the f-word? Why such weak casting? The "generals" that support Octavian in his quest to best Mark Antony are mere boys? Is that factual? Are we to believe that Rome was built by a bunch of kids? They could have at least given us actors who had some facial hair, or the ability to grow it. The actress that plays Atia is awful, and the actress who plays her nemesis is wretched. Both women are supposed to be extremely attractive, but they are not. In the meantime, while all of this tripe between them is going on, we are bored to tears with a stupid story that is evolving around "some" history. Do yourself a favor. Read the Shakespeare play and call it good. This thing sucks.

It is no wonder that Rome was canceled after two seasons. And it is really a shame that the producers took such little care in this opportunity to present a classic television show about an extremely interesting era in history. Instead, what we get is a rather lame attempt to be "Dallas" in a toga.

Rome - The Complete Second Season
Not very happy with this item!
I can't review as I still didn't receive the DVD set (ordered more than 1 month ago). I paid for Expedited International Delivery though(over 10 dollars more than the normal International delivery charge)!
When I complained, I was advised that tha package never made it to the customs and the DVD was re-sent to me. That happened over 2 weeks ago.
Still didn't arrive!
Today is the 20st of January - First ordered it on 15th of December.
